On 1 January 2016 the Employment and Industrial List commenced operation in the Common Law Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
The new List provides specialist judicial management of a wide range of proceedings in employment and industrial contexts. Proceedings suitable for management in the List include disputes related to employment contracts, industrial torts and secondary boycotts, and related contempt proceedings. In addition, the List will include judicial review and appeals from inferior courts and tribunals in employment related matters.
The List will provide for just and efficient determination of eligible proceedings through the early identification of the substantial questions in controversy, and flexible adoption of appropriate procedures.
Justice Michael McDonald will be the Judge in Charge of the Employment and Industrial List and will be assisted by Associate Justice Mary-Jane Ierodiaconou. Their Honours bring extensive experience in industrial relations and employment law.
Further information for practitioners, including a Practice Note, may be found on the Employment and Industrial List webpage.
