This is a group proceeding (class action) brought by Jarad Maxwell Rooke against the Australian Football League (AFL). 

The claim alleges that Mr Rooke and the other group members suffered concussion in the course of training for and/or playing an AFL game in the AFL competition. Mr Rooke alleges that he suffered injury, loss and damage as a result of concussion.

The proposed group members to this proceeding are persons who played in the AFL competition between 1985 and 14 March 2023, who have suffered an acquired brain injury as a result of concussion caused by head knocks while playing and/or training for an AFL game (injured players); the estates of injured players who are now deceased; and persons who were/are dependents of or in close relationships with injured players.

The group proceeding is being run by Margalit Injury Lawyers on a ‘no win no fee’ basis. There is currently no third party litigation funder involved in this group proceeding.
